I have always wanted a mantle to hang Christmas stockings on. It just doesn't seem right to hang them anywhere else. Stephen knows this as I've expressed many times how I wished to have one.
Stephen and his dad made this over the last few weeks in their spare time, (as if either of them have any spare time,) just for me and our Christmas stockings! Isn't it gorgeous?

I am jealous, I love the stockings over the mantle idea too!!! I still love the bookcase your father-in-law made for our wedding present, its fantastic!!
I think black is a great idea for the fireplace! Those stockings (and probably everything else, too!) would look really great against a contrasting background! Don't you just love fixing up your house?
